Expectations

⦁Students may set their own work schedules; must meet the minimum instructional period of 20 hours each week
⦁Students meet with their supervising teacher weekly for 30-45 minutes. Students may be required to meet more often, as needed.
⦁Students must keep these virtual coaching sessions to be academically successful and remain in the program. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the student attends his/her coaching sessions.
⦁There are no excused absences in PVUSD Independent Study Virtual Academy.
 
Failure to meet the minimum requirements will result in a series of consequences that may culminate in the student being dropped from PVUSD Virtual Academy.
 
Attendance Notifications
A series of up to three letters will be sent home to the student and parents to inform them of possible consequences.
 
Letter #1 First Missed Virtual Coaching Session
⦁Supervising Teacher informs the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) that the student is not meeting the PVUSD Independent Study Virtual Academy expectations for attendance.
⦁Administration will mail and email a written letter home reminding students to attend as well as offer supports/interventions if needed.
 
Letter #2 Second Missed Virtual Coaching Session
⦁Supervising Teacher informs the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) that the student is now on probation.
⦁Revocation of work permit, if applicable, until school work is satisfactorily completed.
⦁The student and parent must schedule a meeting with the supervising teacher before his/her next virtual coaching session to determine the conditions of the Personalized Learning Contract. Administrator and/or Counselor may attend the meeting as well. Supports/interventions will be discussed.
⦁Administration will mail and email a second letter home reminding student to attend as well as offer supports/interventions.
 
Letter #3 Third Missed Virtual Coaching Session
⦁Supervising Teacher informs the student and the parent(s)/guardian(s) that the student has been dropped from PVUSD Virtual Academy.
⦁Administration will mail and email a third letter home with the notice to disenroll the student
⦁Student is referred for an alternative placement and/or to PVUSD Student Services.
